鸡汤、争议与反转:格莱美之夜的一场好戏

今天中午，第61届格莱美落幕。

将近四个小时的典礼只颁出了九个奖，让它更像一场超长群星演唱会。

The 61st Grammy awards ceremony lasted for an incredible four hours, even though only nine awards got televised, making it feel more like an extended concert.

The night was defined by female performers. Women won Album of the Year and Best New Artist and dominated the awards show's live performances.

WINNERS

"This Is America"成为第一首拿下年度歌曲与年度制作的说唱歌曲，而它的创作者/演唱者却拒绝表演和出席颁奖典礼。

除了2018年度专辑，年度红人Kacey Musgraves小姐还拿下了最佳乡村专辑，最佳乡村表演和最佳乡村歌曲。

Kacey Musgraves also gave a speech that was "the closest we have all night to a political statement", according to CNN.

"Life is pretty tumultuous for all of us right now... and because of that I feel like art is really important right now."

Best New Artist went to British pop star Dua Lipa.

The pop star beat fellow Londoner Jorja Smith along with rising pop singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha and the enigmatic R&B performer H.E.R.

The ceremony kicked off with a group of powerful women, including Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga, describing the role music has in their lives — a display that came a year after female voices were somewhat muted at the 2018 ceremony.

Two of the night's biggest awards went to one of the night’s biggest no-shows.

In addition to Song of the Year and Record of the year, Childish Gambino's "This Is America" also won Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Music Video, which sparked huge controversy across the country for its racial signifiers and violent images when it was first posted to YouTube.

The references in the music video include Jim Crow, black church choirs, the statue of liberty as well as scenes of intense gun violence.

Drama of the Night

这应该是这个夜晚最富戏剧性的场面了。

和上面那位仁兄类似，说唱明星Drake也老早就表了个态：我不去格莱美表演。

奖都拿了，就顺嘴多说两句，主旨：其实格莱美对我不咋的，其实这个行业也没什么品味，其实音乐人真的不需要格莱美的认可，歌迷喜欢你就行了。

After turning down a performance slot and then showing up to accept the Best Rap Song award, Drake slashed out an anti-Grammy speech on stage, and was cut off by the CBS.

"We play in an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport. It's not the NBA where, at the end of the year, you're holding a trophy because you made the right decisions to win the games. This is a business where sometimes, you know, it's up to a bunch of people who might not understand what a mixed-race kid from Canada has to say or a fly Spanish girl from New York or anybody else or a brother from Houston... my brother Travis [Scott]."The point is, you've already won if you have people who are singing your songs word for word, if you're a hero in your hometown. Look, if there's people who have regular jobs who are coming out in the rain and snow, spending money to buy tickets to your shows, you don't need this right here. You already won."

After that, there was an immediate backlash online to Drake's acceptance speech getting cut short.

The producers later tried to explain on Twitter that Drake's microphone being cut was not supposed to be censorship.

Lady Gaga

One of the highlights of the night was Lady Gaga, who won Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (with actor Bradley Cooper), and Best Song Written For Visual Media.

With Oscar nominations for both her song and performance already announced, this is going to be a major year for Lady Gaga.
